Put Frost Science on Your List
Frost Science – While you’re in Miami Beach enjoying your vacation or weekend getaway, one of the things that you should consider putting on your to-do list is a visit to the nearby Frost Museum of Science, which is located just 4 miles from the Beacon South Beach Hotel. It’s situated in downtown Miami on the waterfront, next to the Perez Art Museum, another of Miami’s outstanding collection of attractions.
About Frost Museum of Science
Although this facility has been around since 1949, it recently reopened in its new location, on May 8, 2017, after it had closed the doors at its previous home 4 miles to the south on Aug. 30, 2015. For a fascinating photo gallery of this museum before it moved to downtown Miami, click here. That move was made possible thanks to Phillip and Patricia Frost, who donated $35 million to construct the new building, and both locals and visitors have been streaming to the beautiful museum ever since.
Hammerhead Sharks and More
What many remember the most from their visit to Frost Science is the spacious 500,000-gallon, 100-foot long aquarium, which provides an opportunity to see many of the sea animals that the Sunshine State is known for up close including hammerhead sharks, devil rays and mahi-mahi.
Look Up At The Sky
Meanwhile, those who have always looked up at the sky with wonder will most likely want to visit Frost Science’s planetarium, a facility that provides an opportunity to gaze at its vast dome screen, which offers 16-million-color 8K projection. In fact, this attraction is a great one for lovers of the sea as well as you can also be taken on a trip through a coral reef in addition to into the stars.
There is More
A variety of exhibitions is also on display. Topics of recent and current ones include flight, water, eyesight, how the mind and body work together, airplanes and the Everglades. The rest of the facility is filled up with permanent galleries, water and educational play areas and laser shows. And not to be discounted is the incredible view of downtown Miami that can be viewed from the facility.
Plan Your Visit
Note that most who have already been to Frost Science recommend allotting several hours to the visit as it’s easy to get so engrossed in it that hours have passed without you even realizing it. This is especially the case if you will be bringing children, but adults tend to remain pretty engaged as well.
The hours are the same seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information about the Frost Museum of Science, call 305.434.9600 or visit Frost Science’s website.
